Autumn Open Triples 29/10/2005

Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association held their Spring Open Triples competition at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Sat 25/03/06 .

Twenty teams of Triples took part in the competition and together with the regular teams competing it was encouraging to see a team from the newly formed club in Skenfrith taking part, there is no doubt they will benefit from playing against more experienced players. Every team had 3 games in the First Round with the Group Winners and 3 best runners up going into the quarter final. Three of the quarter final games were very close games indeed with only one shot separating the winners from losers. The Devauden team did well considering they only started playing 2 years ago, going out to John Bigg’s Goytre Team. In the Semi-Final again very little separated the teams, Eileen Samuels, Gill Jones and Rose Skinner from Magor with Undy just lost to John Biggs, Enid Biggs and Beryl Jones from Goytre. In the final, Wally Gill, Miriam Hughes and Alan Smith from Mathern met John Biggs’s team and started off slowly but in a very evenly matched game won by one shot. All the games were played in a very sportsmanlike manner and all the players were congratulated by Councilor John Major who kindly presented the Perpetual Shield and Trophies to the winners and Runners up. Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association will be holding their Autumn Open Triples Competition in October, for more information about Short Mat Bowling in Monmouthshire  contact Bill Bacon on 01874 730702.

Monmouthshire Short Mat Bowls Association held their Autumn Open Triples competition at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Sat 29/10/05 .

25 Teams of Triples took part representing the Short Mat Bowls Clubs in Monmouthshire, and including members from Monmouth Disabled Club. The teams were separated into 6 Groups, all teams in the first Round had at least 3 games and those in Group 6 had 4 games. In the first round there were some very close results especially in Group2 were Eileen Samuels team from Magor were the winners of the group by an aggregate of 5 shots from the second place team Fred Richards team from Devauden, there was a similar situation in Group 5 were John Nixon’s team from Goytre won with an aggregate of 10 shots from Pauline Hamar’s team from Usk. At the quarter final stage it was becoming obvious that the 3 ladies from Magor led by Eileen Samuels were intent on doing well, easily beating John Nixon’s team from Goytre, the other Goytre team led by Dennis Bruton fared better and went onto the semi-final. In the final game, Eileen Samuels, Rose Skinner and Margaret Ford were matched against Dennis Bruton, Jean and Roy Denner  and after an exciting match went out as worthy winners of the Tournament. The trophies were presented by Councillor Mrs. Val Smith Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, who congratulated all players in taking part and playing to such a high standard of sportsmanship. It is planned to hold another Open Triples in the spring.
