County Red Card Singles

This tournament was held on Sunday the 7th December at Bro Myrddin IBC with an entry of 44 players, with some very hard fought group games the semi-final was between Henry John, Llanboidy v Arwel Nicholas, Meinciau & Mike John, Llanboidy v Dorian Hudson, Meinciau. After two hard games the final was between Henry & Dorian which was all square going into the last end, with Dorian winning with a excellent last wood, third place play off was won by Mike John.

County Red Card Triples

This tournament was held on Sunday the 14th December at Bro Myrddin IBC with an entry of 20 teams, the group stages brought some interesting teams to the semi-final stage the first semi was the newcomer’s team from Pontargothi Steffan James, Simon Peach & Wyn Davies who beat Gary Williams, Andrew Williams & Mike Evans Meinciau, the second semi was played between Vi Adams, Jenny Lee & Mark Evans, Llanboidy v Muriel Williams, Dorian Hudson & Arwel Nicolas , Meinciau this game was won by Meinciau who also went on to win the final against Pontargothi with Llanboidy triple coming third.
County Red Card Fours

On Saturday 29th November we held our Red Card Fours tournament at Bro Myrddin IBC after some hard fought group games the semi finals were between 2 Llanboidy teams and 2 Meinciau teams. The final was between Mike John, Chris John, Henry John & Nigel Thomas, Llanboidy and Muriel Williams, Peter Thomas, Dorian Hudson & Arwel Nicholas, Meinciau, with the Meinciau team taking the win, the third place play off was won by Violet Adams, Jenny Lee, Mark Evans & Tudor Lewis, Llanboidy.


County Game

Carmarthenshire played against Clwyd in the preliminary round of the County Competition at Llandrindod Wells on Sunday 23rd November 2008, and after some very hard fought games came away the eventual winners by 22points to 10points. The county will now play against West Glamorgan and Pembrokeshire in the next round.

The county team consisted of –

Carmarthenshire League Match - Meinciau Sports v. Penygroes

'8 Baller'

The fours match played on Thursday, 25th Sept turned out to be a rare occasion. Skip, Arwel Nicholas, Third, Dorian Hudson, Second, Donna Rowlands & Lead, Idris Jones. The second end is being played and the Penygroes skip played his last bowl which was holding third.  This left Meinciau holding two.
Meinciau skip, Arwel Nicholas played his last bowl clearing Penygroes third bowl and left Meinciau holding 8.

1. In the Chairmans absence Geraint Evans (WSMBA President) took the Chair.

The Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting, and requested that a minute silence be observed in respect of John Williams (Meinciau).

2. APOLOGIES. Anne & Richard Hinkin, Derrick Lock, Huw Morgan, Barbara Davies, Selwyn Evans, Howard Jones.

3. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES. Minutes of AGM held on 18/09/06 were read and confirmed a true record Proposer Sian Rees (Llandyfaelog) Seconder Byron Roe (Ponthenri). Passed.

4. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. In the Chair’s absence the Secretary gave a short report.

5. TREASURER’S REPORT. The Treasurer provided Audited Accounts for each club, and explained all the figures, and answered a few questions, Arwel Nicholas (Llanpumsaint) proposed that the accounts be adopted, seconded by Gary Williams (Meinciau). Passed.

6. SECRETARY’S REPORT. The Secretary thanked the Chairman Anne Hinkin for her work as Chairman for twelve years, (She will be presented with an engraved crystal vase). He also thanked Nigel as League Sec, Ron as Treasurer, and to all that have helped with mats etc at all the tournaments especially the Charity Triples raising £1000 for Calon +. He also thanked all the players entering the tournaments, and wished everyone a good forthcoming season.

4. MATTERS ARISING. The Chairman stated that The Charity Triples had been the best so far with 74 teams playing. The Secretary thanked all members who had helped with the mats etc, and looking forward to next season’s Charity Triples.

5.CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Bronwydd Club requesting to remain in div 2, after discussion it was passed that Bronwydd should be promoted to Div 1. Secretary to write informing them, of the committee’s decision.

6. FINANCIAL REPORT. The Treasurer provided everyone with a printed financial account, which

was accepted, £1781-82 balance. Treasurer stated that Gelli House were to pay £15 towards the Charity Raffle. Chairman thanked Ron & Jean for their work throughout the season.

7. COUNTY MATTERS. Following the last meeting 7 clubs were interested in participating in the summer league, the preferd format was 2 Pairs and 2 Triples with a minimum of six players, Clubs Llanboidy, Llandyfaelog, Llangyndeyrn, Pontargothi, Salem and Trimsaran). Llandyfaelog offered to donate a Shield for the Summer League Comp.

8. WSMBA MATTERS. The Chairman congratulated all players who played in the under 18’s against England under 18’s at Bro Myrddin, in particular the 5 from Carmarthenshire.

10. A.O.B. Nigel Thomas thanked everyone who had contributed to their 24hr Marathon Bowls, £1200 had been raised towards Cancer Care Cymru. Frank James Trimsaran informed the meeting that the club was now known as The Trimsaran Sports & Social Club.

The Chairman thanked everyone for attending and declared the meeting closed.

"A" Series Trial 7th September, @ Llandrindod Wells.

Welsh Championships.

Over the last couple of weeks the Welsh Championships have been held at Llandrindod Wells with all the Carmarthenshire teams doing well, some teams even getting through to the Quarter and Semi-Finals, but the best result goes to Rhodri Jones and Arwel Nicholas, Llanpumpsaint Bowls Club who won the Pairs Championships and earn their position in the Welsh team to play in the British Isles Championships in Ireland next November.


Welsh Junior U16 Pairs Competition

Carmarthenshire are very lucky to have a large squad of very keen U16 bowlers this year, they are – Hannah Styles, Llandyfaelog, Mike John, Llanboidy, Andrew Williams, Meinciau, Lauren Moore, Jordan Hall, Shannon Griffiths, Callum Guest, Katie Daniels, Luke Hall, Darren Calford, Jordan Davies, Laura Guest & Alaw Thomas all from Trimsaran.

Even though for most of these players it’s their year bowling they all played well, with Hannah Styles & Mike John and Katie Daniels & Andrew Williams going through to the last eight, and Katie & Andrew eventually finishing equal third.

County Game

The county team played a double header in Llandrindod Wells on Sat 26th Jan in the Welsh Short Mat Bowls Association County Championships, the results were-

Carmarthenshire – 10, West Glamorgan – 22.

Carmarthenshire – 24, Monmouthshire – 8.

Monmouthshire – 4, West Glamorgan – 28.

West Glam goes through to the Finals.
